Back Up Your Sensitive Computer Data

(PRWEB) December 16, 2004

TK8 Productions has released TK8 Backup v. 3.0, an easy-to-use Windows application that takes the pain and mystery out of backing up your files.

TK8 Backup protects your data from hard disk failures, computer crashes, devastating virus attacks, vandalism, and fire. By keeping regular on-site and off-site backups, you can ensure that your business transactions and financial records will be available when you need them.

With just a few clicks, you can tell TK8 Backup to back up your Outlook and Outlook Express emails, attachments, and account information. Preserve your calendar, address book, favorites, desktop, Start menu, and fonts. It’s easy to define which word processing, spreadsheet, and other files will be backed up. You can even back up your open files.

It’s simple to create multiple backup profiles, each with its own settings. Each profile tells the program which files to capture, how frequently to back them up, and where to store them.

To save disk space, TK8 Backup uses industry-standard ZIP compression to safely compact your files for efficient storage. If you have more data than will fit on a single disk, the program will split your information and store it on multiple disks. You can even use TK8 Backup’s built-in FTP function to upload your backups to another computer.

Sensitive data can be password protected and encrypted. You can run a backup profile with a single click, or schedule your backups to occur automatically, when you’re away from the computer.

Unlike backup programs that let you accumulate a pile of backup CDs or DVDs over time, TK8 Backup comes with a backup management system. The program keeps track of your backup disks, and knows immediately where your critical files are.

Restoring your backed up files is as easy as creating them. TK8 Backup’s Restoring Wizard takes you step by step through the process of moving files from your backup disks to your computer.

TK8 Backup has all of the advanced features that computer experts need to back up and restore files. You can filter source files, back up open files, send email notifications, set processor usage limits, run in hidden mode, and perform FTP management. There are no backup file size limits. The comprehensive help file and manual answer any questions that might arise.

Whether you’re a business person who needs to ensure that your company backs up its critical files regularly, a system administrator or computer consultant who is responsible for the data integrity of your clients’ computers, or a home user who wants the peace of mind of knowing that critical system files and financial information are safe and secure, TK8 Backup has the tools that you need.

TK8 Backup v. 3.0 runs on Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/2000/XP/2003, costs $ 39.95(US) for a single-user license, and may be purchased securely online at http://www.tk8.com/. Multi-user discounts are available. The software comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Evaluation Copy Available on Request.

Remote Backup Systems’ Remote Backup Software Makes Data Earthquake-Proof

Memphis, TN (PRWEB) June 20, 2005

Recent earthquake activity along several of the nation’s major fault lines clearly illustrates the need for sending backups of valuable computer data offsite. Earthquakes can destroy backup tapes along with the computers that generated the data if both are kept in the same location, as most are. Businesses of all types and sizes are benefiting from the redundancy, automation, and security that a remote backup service provides.

Earthquakes can force computer users to evacuate offices without notice – leaving computers and backup tapes behind and making it impossible to do business, sometimes for days or weeks.

“People are playing Russian roulette with their business data,” said Tommy Gardner, Director of Sales and Marketing at Remote Backup Systems Inc. “Many companies, especially those in the small-and-medium business sector, don’t realize that they are at such a high risk for data loss.” Gardner continued, “The loss of critical data stores can quickly put these companies out of business, so backing up computer data to an off-site location is now as essential as locking your doors at night.”

Gardner recommends regularly moving copies of business-critical data offsite to secure storage facilities. RBS’ RBackup Remote Backup software enables IT and computer service companies to automatically back up their client’s computers via the internet or other network connections. Instead of backing up to tape drives or CDs, both which require manual configuration and transportation, RBackup runs automatically, usually at night after a business is closed. Data backed up to a remote location can be recovered even if the computer that created it is completely destroyed.

Computer Data Storage

Article by Skyline

Computers are common fixtures we see and encounter every day. Billions of people use it on a daily basis without giving much attention to its components. So long as it’s serving its purpose, people just go about their business on this powerful machine. However, isn’t it logical to know your tool very well so you can maximize your usage? It pays to know a lot about your computer to realize its full potential and at the same time, be wary of its limitations. One aspect that deserves to be tackled is computer information storage. In this article, you will be able to learn its very definition, classifications and alternatives.

To begin with, computer data storage refers to the component of the computer where data is recorded and preserved. It is inversely called memory or storage. The former is the primary storage element which is directly accessible to the Central Processing Unit (CPU). A more technical term for it is semiconductor storage random-access memory (SDRAM). The latter, on the other hand, is the computer piece, which isn’t technically embedded in the CPU and serves secondary storage purposes. Hard disk drives and optical disc drives fall under this category. Both are basic and vital to every computer unit.

Since the invention of the modern computer, there has been a lot of storage devices introduced. It must be noted though at one form of computer storage cannot be really greater than the other can as all of them have their own downside. However, the distinctions lie in the technology used and its storage capacity. The storage capacity of a computer is determined through the amount of data they can store in bytes. A higher memory increases the speed of the computer.

As the needs of the user are generally mercurial, these storage devices are manufactured to upgradeable. If your computer memory cannot keep up with the size of the programs and applications you have installed, you can always opt to replace it. Furthermore, if your disk space isn’t enough for the files you intend to store, you can expand it through several means. You may choose to replace your old hard drive with one of higher storage capacity or you can simply add extra space. There is an array of external removable hard drives which you can just plug into your computer or laptop whenever you run out of data space. In addition, you can free up some space by transferring some of your files on an external location or media such as CD, DVD and USB flash drives. One of these is bound to be suitable for your storage needs.

Dynamics GP Data Migration from Your Legacy Accounting Application

Article by Andrew Karasev

When you are implementing new Corporate ERP application, the question of the data conversion and migration is often on the top of the list. Sometimes your Information Technology department folks may tell you, if Dynamics GP is MS SQL Server based application, they should be able to convert all the data from your legacy ERP into Great Plains tables via SQL insert statements. You should be aware that modern Corporate ERP systems, such as Dynamics GP, AX, SAP Business One have high level of abstraction and among the three mentioned, only Dynamics GP allows you direct data inserting, while Axapta and Business One do not allow you alter data on the table records level (you may try and see what will happen…). Let’s now concentrate on Great Plains Dynamics GP. For initial data conversion we recommend you to consider Integration Manager. If you plan only initial one-time data conversion, you may consider IM Conversions license, or if you plan ongoing integration (especially in ecommerce daily shopping carts, Point Of Sale transactions import, or even in simple custom EDI, where you would like to integrate Electronic Data Interchange files without purchasing expensive EDI integration capable products) – consider IM full license (or you may choose Financials or Distributions only). In some cases, when you are walking away from legacy accounting and implementing GP, there might be migration tool, especially when you are on GP track (such as if you are on Great Plains Accounting for DOS, you may upgrade it all the way through Dynamics GP 2010; or if you are on Great Plains Dynamics on Pervasive SQL 2000/Btrieve or Ctree – no need for data conversion – upgrade route will lead you to the current Dynamics GP version 2010 or previous version 10.0; there is also Rapid Migration Tool, which should help you to migrate from QuickBooks or Peachtree to Dynamics GP). Let’s now review data migration and conversion steps and recommendations:

1. Decision on the Conversion Scope. Some customers may say – why don’t we just migrate “everything”? or “everything possible”? The answer may be in the cost. Theoretically you may migrate all the data from your legacy accounting, but it might be impractical, especially when you have huge amount of historical data and you do not expect to use it (some queries might be needed, maybe if you expect future company audit, but other than that…). We recommend you to consider keeping your legacy Corporate ERP application on the stand alone computer for possible queries and begin from the new page with your new ERP system, Microsoft Dynamics GP. Consider moving just master records: Chart of Accounts (you may decide to re-haul its structure and clean it up a little bit), Customers, Vendors, Employees, Addresses and beginning balances in General Ledger. This approach should allow you to minimize data conversion budget and be ready to start using your new Accounting in the matter of several weeks. If you would like to see GL reports, where you compare current year versus last year (typically P&L or Balance Sheet in FRx or Microsoft Management Reporter) – then you may decide to convert GL transactions for the last year (the easiest way is to combine all the transactions for the fiscal period, often it is calendar month, into one and post them into the open previous year). Conversion is relatively straight forward to be designed in Integration Manager. If you think that this conversion method doesn’t work for you and you really need historical transactions to be converted in such modules as Sales Order Processing, Purchase Order Processing, Inventory Control, Payroll, let’s try to review that in the next paragraph

2. Historical Data Conversion. It might be required, try to answer the following questions. Do I really need to base my Pricing for specific customer on historical orders? How far would I like to go to the history – one, two, five years, prior to resetting the customer price list to my current standard pricing? Do I want to negotiate the price with my supplier, based on my historical purchase orders. If my customer have self-service on my B2B ecommerce portal, what is the historical time span for them to see? If you have the answer, where you indicate that one or several of these questions have answer “Yes” – you may need historical data migration. Let’s review how historical data could be migrated

3. Integration Manager in Historical Data Conversion. It is not really difficult to integrate Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Payroll transactions in IM. The challenge is typically related to the volume of historical data, that is the subject to migration. If you have several millions of Sales transactions in the past ten years – you may expect several hours or even days to move them into GP, as IM validated business logic for each one and you may expect the migration process to be repeated several time, until you are satisfied with the results. Another recommendation in historical data conversion – please, consider unchecking Posting Through and To General Ledger, as the most likely GL beginning balances or even historical years are handled directly in GL historical data conversion

4. Some facts about Integration Manager for programmers. The easiest way to setup integration is to base it on text file (tab, comma or special character delimited). However IM is not limited to text files only. Source Query could be based on simple or even so-called Advanced ODBC, where you can pull data from such Microsoft Databases as MS SQL Server, Access, Excel, Word, plus from non-Microsoft DB platforms, such as MySQL/Linux, FoxPro, Pervasive SQL, Ctree, Oracle, DBII to name a few. Advanced ODBC also could help you with manipulating text file (Microsoft Text File ODBC Driver) – you can use such constructions as Union, Group By, Having, etc. In Integration Manager you can also tune integration logic via Events triggered VBA scripts: Before Document, Before Document Commits…

5. Technical Side of Integration Manager. Dynamics GP is kind of in transition to deploy as much SQL Stored Procedures as possible (and expose itself to such technologies as .Net, XML, Web Services, C#). IM is not an exception, with Dynamics GP 10.0 we see strong influence of eConnect SDK (the background technology for eConnect are encrypted SQL Server Stored Procedures). With the introduction of the version 10.0 and especially with 2010/11.0 eConnect is recommended alternative to traditional Integration Manager Queries, based on OLE Server (old-good-days Great Plains consultants know – when you are launching IM all the Windows should be closed and GP application goes into background mode, enabling GP as OLE Server). eConnect is based on SQL Stored Procedures, and it doesn’t require you to have Great Plains user workstation running (and consuming one concurrent user license). Plus eConnect connectors for Integration Manager are naturally faster (OLE Server is very high level abstraction and it fill in all the fields and then submits the form for processing as you would do it in user interface, where eConnect simply call encrypted SQL stored procedure)

6. Ongoing Integration. Let’s review this routine for such popular case as ecommerce shopping cart integration into SOP Invoice. Integration Manager could be triggered to launch SOP integration on demand, or it could be scheduled to be called every ten minutes (quasi real time integration). We do believe that quasi real time integration is feasible option for most of the ecommerce retailers and wholesalers. In the case, when you really have to see the ecommerce shopping cart originated transaction in the matter of seconds, you may decide to program it in eConnect libraries for Microsoft Visual Studio.Net

Management Mass Data Storage Options

Article by Matt Garrett

Management mass data storage uses different electronic devices that are used for storing a large amount of data. Due to advances in technology, management mass date storage has become fairly easy.

Mass storage is a way for individuals or businesses to store sucessfully a large amount of data. The most common form of mass data storage is on computer drives. The most popular storage devices are:

* Floppy disks* Hard disks* CD-Roms* USB ports

According to Webopedia, mass storage devices still hold information even when the computer or operating system is not powered on.

A common device for organizing management mass data storage is the CD-ROM Disc. Although CD-style discs come in a wide variety brands, all kinds resemble a music CD or DVD in their appearance. There are some discs that only record data once. Many times, these discs are referred to as “read only” discs. “CDRWs” is a common name for discs that can have data erased and re-entered on the disc over and over again. CD-ROM Discs are popular because they are portable, which means they can be removed from the CD-ROM drive that reads and stores data on them. CD-ROM drives are generally tagged with a speed number; for example, 4x. Many CD discs are also associated with a speed number. Technology has allowed these speeds to increase, and are making storing and retrieving data from a CD disc much easier and faster.

Floppy disks were, and still are, a popular way to store and transfer important data. Although management mass data storage is generally used for large businesses, many individuals or families use floppy disks as a way to store their important personal information. Floppy disks work specifically with disk drives that can be found on most standard computer operating systems. A floppy disk is convenient, because it is portable and can be removed from the floppy drive and stored someplace safe. Handling the management mass data storage is easy for companies and individuals with a floppy disk.

Hard disk are another common and secure way to manage and store mass amounts of data. The majority of computers sold today have hard disks. Many larger businesses or computer networks have at least one, and at times, multiple hard disks drives. a hard disk is often compared to a traditional cassette tape, because both use special magnetic recording. This magnetic recording process allows for the data to be stored, copied, or even erased.

USB ports is another management mass data storage device. The USB port allows external devices to be connected to many standard operating systems. This allows data to be retrieved, copied, or stored from a source outside the computer. Various kinds of media equipment use the USB ports on a computer. For instance, many MP3 players, iPods, video cameras, and digital cameras can be connected to a computer by a USB cable. It is possible to purchase external CD drivers or external hard drives. These items are often used when an operating system may not have a hard drive installed, or if additional space is needed.

Windows, Mac, and other electronic operating systems generally have one at least one kind of management mass data storage, and some have a combination of different storage options. operating and maintaining of management mass data storage is a safe and efficien way to eliminate paper filing systems or and the overuse of traditional, handwritten materials.
